The compass Steven Lee

The compass is one of the technologies that was invented in early China, and transported, and improved in Europe during the renaissance. The significant importance of this invention is that it led to the age of exploration. In 1490, Vasco da Gama, sailed around the Cape of the Good Hope in South Africa, and discovered a new sea route to India. This discovery soon led to the commercial revolution between Asia and Europe. Countries, such as Italy, who controlled the Mediterranean Sea, soon lost its advantage, and people started to focus more on the Atlantic Ocean. This revolution also led to the propagation of Christianity in Asia. The compass also improved the number of returning ships. It also influenced people to think more rationality, rather than believing their senses, and in God. As a result of navigation, the navy became more important, and soon used their navy power to colonize other countries.
